Since early history the Celts have been wearing kilts, but it is only in the last few centuries that the sporran has become worn. As can be seen in the above illustration the standard sporran is not totally suited to all the activities of the modern world. This book is designed to facilitate the production of sporrans which can be used in the situations which arise from late 20th century life.

The original concept of the sporran is that of a bag for carrying objects which would be needed most, although the sporran now has become an integral part of Celtic Traditional Dress. There is no reason why the original concept should not be applied to Modern Cetic Dress.
